Pro Bono Project

Mehr Enforcement Project

A Promise Worth Fighting For
Tell Us Your Story

Why Mehr Matters

Mehr (or Mahr or Maher or Mehrieh) isn’t symbolic. Mehr is a solemn promise made during Islamic marriage, intended to provide financial protection, respect, and dignity to a woman entering a new chapter of life. It’s a contract rooted in trust and culture, but more importantly, it may be legally enforceable. And yet, far too often, when women seek to enforce their Mehr, they are told not to. Told by courts that it’s irrelevant. Told by attorneys that it’s not worth pursuing. Told by society to move on. At Ghaffari Law Firm, we see what others ignore. And we fight for what others dismiss. Because you should never have to apologize for standing up for what you’re owed—and we Never Settle for systems that push women aside.
Upholding Sacred Promises. Defending Dignity. Partnering for Justice. Because We Never Settle for Silence. We Never Settle for Less.
You should never have to apologize for standing up for what you’re owed.

How We Help

Our Mission: Turning Promises Into Legal Protections

We combine legal experience, cultural fluency, and a deep commitment to client dignity.
Through our Pro Bono Mehr Enforcement Project, we advocate fiercely for the enforcement of valid Mehr agreements in divorce proceedings. We offer this service at no cost, because justice should never depend on a bank balance. But this is more than legal work—it’s personal. We have seen the tears as women tell their story, sharing how they were pressured to "be the bigger person," to "let it go." They’ve been made to feel greedy for expecting courts to honor what was promised to them—sometimes by their own attorneys. We are here to tell you: you are not wrong. You are not difficult. You are not alone. When we say Never Settle, we mean we will never stand by while women are asked to shrink themselves for the sake of someone else’s comfort.
